With orthodontic treatment, we can create a beautiful and harmonious smile as well as improve the position and function of the teeth and jaws.
At the Meerhof clinic we use the most modern equipment and the latest technology to diagnose the position of the teeth and detect maxillofacial anomalies, as well as to plan and carry out orthodontic treatment. Patients of all ages are welcome: children, adolescents, adults, as well as people of retirement age, while a referral for an appointment is not required.
With orthodontic treatment we can:
- align the teeth;
- change the position of individual teeth;
- close the gaps between the teeth;
- improve interdental contacts;
- prepare teeth for prosthetics, jaws for implants;
- we can change the development of fmaxillo-facial complex in children;
- prevent serious malocclusion.
First visit:
At the first consultation, the orthodontist talks with the patient about patient’s problems and expectations, asks questions about his health, previous experience with the dentist / orthodontist. At the same appointment, a thorough examination of the oral cavity is carried out, during which the condition of the oral cavity is checked and, if necessary, additional examinations are carried out. Based on the information received, the orthodontist acquaints the patient with the need for treatment and agrees on a further action plan or appoints a separate visit for a diagnostic study (photo, X-ray, if necessary 3D examination, dental scanning, etc.).
Treatment plan discussion:
If orthodontic treatment is necessary and the patient is interested in it, an orthodontic treatment plan is presented for him. When discussing the treatment plan, the orthodontist introduces the patient to oral problems, treatment options, orthodontic appliances, frequency of regular visits, calculation, approximate duration of treatment and expected outcome. If the patient wishes to start treatment, it will be carried out as planned. On average, orthodontic treatment lasts 1.5-2 years.
Orthodontic appliances:
The orthodontic appliance is selected by the orthodontist in accordance with the treatment plan and the patient’s wishes. At the Meerhof clinic we use the following orthodontic appliances:
Metal braces are the most commonly used type of braces. There are self-ligating metal braces (for example, Damon), which have a special locking mechanism to hold the orthodontic wire inside the braces, and ordinary metal braces, which are attached to the wire using elastics or wires.
Ceramic or aesthetic braces are nearly transparent, barely visible dental fixtations attached to the teeth. To activate both ceramic or metal braces, you must visit the orthodontist at intervals of 1-1.5 months.
Aligners or orthodontic aligners (Invisalign) – an alternative to braces. With the help of individual aligners for each patient, you can correct the position of individual teeth and treat specific occlusion problems. Since it is a removable orthodontic appliance, it requires maximum cooperation from the patient. Eliners should be worn for at least 22 hours a day throughout the entire orthodontic treatment (on average 1-2 years), removing them from the mouth during meals and brushing. As with braces, the patient should visit the orthodontist regularly at intervals of 1.5–2 months.
Mini-screws or mini-implants are orthodontic appliances inserted into the bone that facilitate the movement of teeth and also facilitate collaboration between the patient and the doctor.
Removable orthodontic appliances (for example, plates, myofunctional aligners, etc.) are usually used in children. They can be used to tilt the teeth, they can influence the proper development and growth of the teeth or jaws and increase the tone of the oral muscles.
Fixed orthodontic appliances (functional appliances, Quad-Helix, seat holder, etc.) are used both as stand-alone and auxiliary devices during orthodontic treatment.
After finishing orthodontic treatment:
To maintain a beautiful orthodontic result (so that straight teeth do not move back), an orthodontic retainer is fixed to the inner surface of some teeth, which remains to preserve the achieved result. The retainer is installed on the teeth so that it is not seen. In addition to the attached retainer, the patient receives a transparent vacum retainer, which he wears as prescribed by the doctor.
After finishing of orthodontic treatment, we want to be sure that the achieved result is preserved, therefore we call patient back for regular examination, first 2-3 times a year, and then once a year.
We love what we do
In our cases you can see not just smiling patients of the Dental Center. You see people who trusted the solution of their dental problems to experienced professionals. A dazzling smile is a pleasant reward.
