How Dental Implants are Placed?

Dental implantation is a procedure that implants a titanium rod into the jawbone, increases the gum tissue volume in the implantation area and secures the ceramic fixture.

The process consists of 3 stages:

1. Planning

In the beginning, a comprehensive diagnosis is made, namely 3D X-ray and optical scan of the jawbone. Then the implantation and his team members analyze the data and make a decision on the types and time of treatment to be given and the cost of treatment.

Planning also includes design (digital positioning of implants and replacing teeth) and making a surgical guide.

The surgical guide is made using computer planning and 3D printing. It takes into account all orthopedic and surgical parameters, provides high accuracy and minimizes the risk of injury during implant placement. Therefore, the procedure is safe and any complications are less likely to occur.

2. Implantology stage

Dental implant placement is a patient-friendly procedure and feels not much different from other dental procedures. A titanium rod is implanted while local or general anesthesia is applied. If the volume of bone tissue is insufficient, it is augmented by way of bone grafting. If necessary, sinus lifting and/or gingivoplasty is performed.

After the procedure, the follow-up 3D X-ray is carried out and the patient is provided with a post-surgery care package for more comfortable recovery. In 10 to 14 days, the patient comes to the clinic for repeated inspection.

3. Orthopedic stage

This stage begins in 2.5 to 6 months, when the bone around the implant matures. The stage start time depends on whether the rod was placed in the socket of a removed tooth (in an immediate or delayed manner) or in the “grafted” bone. The patient comes to the clinic twice, and procedures s/he goes through do not make the patient feel uncomfortable.

During the first visit, the physician takes casts or carries out a 3D scan of the jawbone. The data is delivered to the dental technical laboratory, where a replacing tooth is produced. During the second visit, which takes place in 10 to 14 days, the dentist finally secures the crown, and the process of replacing the missing tooth is considered completed.

FAQs

Meerhof Dental Center effectively places non-submerged implants when a titanium rod is inserted immediately after the extraction of an affected tooth (teeth), and in 2 to 4 days a temporary fixture is fitted. A permanent ceramic fixture is fitted in 1 to 2 months.

In case of total (comprehensive) work, a temporary fixture is immediately fitted, which ensures that the patient feels comfortable throughout the entire treatment period. This is especially important since the patient can easily smile and chew.

The placement of submerged implants takes 3 to 6 months (3 to 4 visits). The restoration of all teeth in both jaws takes 6 months to 2 years. The time period depends on the patient’s health condition, the need to augment bone tissue, and whether the patient can come to the clinic from time to time (or cannot if s/he is living/working in another country).

Complete healing after implantation takes 3 to 6 months.

No. There are intervals of several months between the stages. After implant placement, you may only feel a little uncomfortable, and during the first 2 to 3 days your gums may hurt a bit. If you heed the guidance provided by your physician, you will go back to normal life the next day.

The cost of placing a single implant and a ceramic crown in Meerhof Dental Center consists of the following components:

  • Cost of the dental implant.
  • Cost of work.
  • Cost of auxiliary procedures (3D surgical guide, anesthesia, disposable sterile surgical kit, 3D tomography, post-surgery care package).
Cost of gums grafting, bone tissue augmenting, and sinus lifting (if needed).

The actual scope of treatment and the dental implantation cost are calculated at the initial stage, after consultation with the physician.
